Congratulations Burial Beer & Green Man Brewing

Beer & Brewing Magazine just named Burial Beer Company the number one Small Brewery in the nation. A small brewery makes the equivalent of 10,000-25,000 barrels of beer in a single year. On top of that Green Man Brewing was named the #15 small brewery in the nation as well. What an awesome achievement for both breweries. The South Slope of Asheville is a national powerhouse. That means that the best brewery tour in Asheville, Beer City Brewery Tours, goes to two of the best breweries in the nation. On the tour the local beer expert, me, educates beer visitors on the in's and out's of beer, brewing process, and the stories of beer. We are thrilled to have such amazing and popular breweries in Beer City and we can't wait to see what the future holds for these two breweries.

For everyone who doesn't know, Beer & Brewing Magazine is the periodical equivalent to beer like Rolling Stone is to music. Every other month the periodical takes a deep dive into beer styles, recipes, expert analysis, stories of breweries, beer bars, beer and food pairings and in depth articles about ingredients. The big page turner for me are the blind taste testings of beer that have been submitted from all over the country. Each magazine highlights and evaluates certain styles like IPA, stout, lager, wild ales, etc. Breweries send their beers in for evaluation and have their beers judged by the B&B team of experts and are awarded a score up to 100. These scores are based upon those color, aroma, flavor, aftertaste, etc. Green Man and Burial have scored in the 90s for their beers numerous times over the years with Green Man getting a 99 for their Italian Pilsner.

To the left: The many beer taps at Green Man's iconic original space, Dirty Jack's. Let me, a local beer expert, take you on a journey around Asheville's beer scene.

Did you know that beer tap lines should be cleaned at least every two weeks? Dirty Jack's actually isn't that Dirty after all as they write the date of the last line cleaning for all to see. Now that's transparency!
